Meeting the Health Care Access Needs of Veterans (National Center for Mobility Management 2016). This brief describes VA services designed to improve veteran’s access to health care, shares success stories of mobility managers working within and outside of the VA system to expand access options for the veteran community, and discusses opportunities for mobility managers to facilitate partnerships between community and veteran transportation providers.

Improving Veteran Mobility in Small Urban and Rural Areas (Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute, 2014). Reports results of survey of rural veterans transportation needs in Minnesota, Montana, and North Dakota. Also includes simulation of veterans health care transportation costs and brief survey of literature on veterans transportation.

Community Toolbox for Improving Options and Coordination of Transportation for Military Service Members, Veterans, and Their Families (Transit Cooperative Research Program, 2014). Provides guidance and tools to assess transportation needs of veterans, service members, and their families and ways to potentially improve public transit, specialized transportation, volunteer services, and other local transportation options needed to meet those needs.

Route to Community Engagement Toolkit (Easter Seals Project ACTION, 2013). An eight-step process for working in partnership with veterans, military families and active duty service personnel in local community engagement activities.

A Mission to Serve: State Activities to Help Military Veterans Access Transportation (National Conference of State Legislatures, 2013). Provides a synthesis of state veterans’ transportation efforts nationwide; in-depth case studies of efforts in Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin; and detailed profiles for all 50 states and other jurisdictions that responded to the survey. The focus throughout the report is on state-level activities that facilitate access to transportation all military veterans, for all purposes.

Military Community Transportation Needs (Veteran’s Transportation and Community Living Initiative, 2011). An introduction for the transportation community to the military community and its transportation needs.

Improving Mobility for Veterans (Transit Cooperative Research Program, Research Results Digest 99, 2011). Highlights mobility issues facing veterans and illustrates some potential strategies for community transportation providers who are interested in enhancing mobility options for veterans. This is a 96-page summary and a companion piece to the larger digest.

Transportation for America’s Veterans (Community Transportation Association of America, 2010). This edition of Community Transportation casts light on the veterans' transportation challenge and highlights the outstanding work of a number of transit operators that everyday are connecting veterans with a better life.

Veterans Transportation and Community Living Initiative. Ongoing projects funded through Federal Transit Administration capital grants in 2011 and 2012 to 86 communities to create or expand one call–one click access to transportation information and services.

Veterans Transportation Services. Website for transportation program implemented by the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2012 to assist immobilized and remote VA patients access medical services.

National Resource Directory. Online database of resources for wounded warriors, service members, veterans, and their families and caregivers with those who support them. Sponsored by the U.S. Departments of Defense, Labor, and Veterans Affairs.

Disabled American Veterans. Website for DAV transportation network, which is a nationwide network of volunteer-operated fleets of vehicles that provide free transportation to VA medical facilities for injured and ill veterans.

Federal Recovery Coordination Program. Website for program that provides support for the recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration of severely injured, ill, or wounded service members and veterans.

U.S. Department of Labor Veterans Employment Services (VETS). Website with resources for potential employers of veterans and veterans seeking jobs.
