New STARS bus shelters aim to expand food access
- Date: 03/27/2024
Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) and the Saginaw City Council are hoping to turn Saginaw from a food desert…
Thanks to funding from Blue Cross Blue Shield, they created the “You SNAP, We Match” program, which allows people who use EBT/SNAP cards to receive a dollar-for-dollar match on SNAP items like fruits, veggies and bread. The uptown farmers market is planning to launch a shuttle service so they can transport people who live in food deserts, defined as places where there’s not a grocery store within a one mile distance.
