Rural Philanthropy Toolkit (Rural Health Information Hub 2019). Developed with partners at the NORC Walsh Center for Rural Health Analysis, this toolkit compiles model programs and resources and provides guidance to assist in preparing for partnerships with philanthropies, conducting outreach to philanthropies, and establishing and sustaining relationships with philanthropies.

Economics of Transportation Research Needs for Rural Elderly and Transportation Disadvantaged Populations (Texas A&M Transportation Institute, 2017). Provides research recommendations on five general areas of rural transportation: theoretical issues, innovative solutions, rural socioeconomic considerations, economic assessment and evaluation of rural transit, and information technology solutions.

Formula Grants for Rural Areas: Program Guidance and Application Instructions (Federal Transit Administration 2014). A re-issuance of guidance on the administration and preparation of the transit assistance program for guidance on the administration and preparation of grant applications for the Formula Grants for Rural Area Program under 49 U.S.C 5311.

Evolution of Intelligent Transportation Systems for Mobility Management and Coordination Serving California’s Rural Frontier (Federal Transit Administration, 2012). Documents the evolution, development, and lessons learned while attempting to identify, modify, and deploy ITS and advanced technology tools to facilitate coordination of public transit and social (human) service transportation and mobility management in a “one-stop shop” located in Modoc County, California.

Innovative Rural Transit Services (Transit Cooperative Research Program, Synthesis No. 94, 2011). Examines transit’s response (including rural intercity bus service) to changing rural community transportation needs. The synthesis placed an emphasis on innovative and/or entrepreneurial spirit, the innovator, and the conditions required for innovation.

Rural Vanpooling: Highlights from Three Communities Webinar (Community Transportation Association of America, 2010). This archived webinar looks at how vanpooling can provide a flexible, cost-effective solution for smaller, more widely dispersed communities.

Toolkit for Rural Community Coordinated Transportation Services (Transit Cooperative Research Program, Report No. 101, 2004). Examines strategies and practices used to coordinate rural transportation services and identifies model processes used for local coordination efforts in rural communities.

National Rural Transit Assistance Program (National RTAP). An FTA program dedicated to creating rural transit solutions through technical assistance, partner collaboration and training.

RPO America (Rural Planning Organizations of America). A program affiliate of the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) and the NADO Research Foundation that provides resources to the rural transportation and explores matters related to rural transportation planning and development.

Rural Health Information Hub (RHIhub). The Rural Health Information Hub (RHIhub) is the nation’s rural health information source. Website offers online library, coverage of rural issues, state guides, toolkits, program models, and more. Provides customized assistance by phone or email. Funded by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy.

Rural Institute (University of Montana). Conducts research to identify and develop transportation options for rural communities and provides technical assistance in implementing those options.

Small Urban and Rural Transit Center (North Dakota State University). Provides transit stakeholders with support in accessing the latest technology and operation and management paradigms, in order to increase the mobility of small urban and rural residents through improved public transportation.

Tribal Technical Assistance Program. A U.S. Department of Agriculture–funded program offered by the Community Transportation Association of America that provides technical assistance to tribal nations throughout the United States in developing transportation services.
