New STARS bus shelters aim to expand food access

Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) and the Saginaw City Council are hoping to turn Saginaw from a food desert…
Bancroft Community Transit, (Ont., Canada) is already partnered with the North Hastings Community Cupboard and CARE North Hastings, but they are adding to their workload with a new service.
Director of Operations at BCT Gwen Coish says they are offering a free delivery service for seniors 55 or older. The service is available to those living in Bancroft, Hastings Highlands, Faraday, Carlow/Mayo, Wollaston, Limerick and parts of Tudor and Cashel Townships. The service is for people who have no other means of getting groceries.
“We will send in a shopper,” Coish explains. "The person will pick out what was ordered, pay for it and deliver it on the designated day. The receipt will be attached to the groceries and the person that placed the order will have to pay for it when it’s dropped off either with their debit or credit card or by using another form of payment."
