Indianapolis to Offer Free Bike Share Passes to All Residents

  • Date: 05/29/2024

Indianapolis will be the first U.S. city to offer all its residents free annual bike share passes on Pacers Bike Share, reports Ron Johnson in Momentum.

The announcement coincides with the system’s 10th anniversary and the introduction of 325 new electric bikes. “The sleek white e-bikes, distinguishable from the gold classic bikes, are now stationed at 50 bikeshare hubs across the city, ready to be accessed via the BCycle mobile app.”

The new bikes and passes are funded through a $1.2 million federal Construction Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant, as well as city and private funds. “With this groundbreaking initiative, Indianapolis is setting a new standard for urban cycling accessibility and sustainability,” Johnson writes.
