Shared scooters and bikes get designated parking in Helsinki

  • Date: 04/08/2023

Leaving an electric scooter or city bicycle in areas outside of designated parking zones in Helsinki is now a parking violation, the city said ahead of this week's Easter break.

The restricted zone covers the Hesperia Esplanade and the area south of the Pitkäsilta bridge in the city centre. The western border runs along the Lauttasaari bridge, according to the city.

Signs will indicate the restricted area and official parking zones. Designated parking areas will also be visible in the apps of scooter and bike firms.

Shared scooter and bike parking will be designated in and around squares, marketplaces and roadside parking areas. About 130 of the estimated 250 parking areas will be in parking spots for cars.

"The prohibition also means that short-term stopping to run an errand, for example, is only allowed in the separately marked micromobility parking spaces," the city said in a statement.
