STARS bus service giving out 200 grocery carts to help navigate Saginaw’s ‘food desert’

  • Date: 10/05/2021

Saginaw Transit Authority & Regional Services, or STARS, is partnering with community organizations to provide 200 wheeled shopping carts to city residents who rely on public busing to buy their groceries, according to a news release.

The bus service has a four-bag limit for safety purposes, adding difficulty to grocery shopping for those who already face the most barriers to fresh food, STARS Director of External Affairs Jamie Forbes said in the release. STARS staff and their community partners have identified recipients for the wire carts, which will be distributed on Wednesday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 8.
