Can These Self-Charging E-Bike Libraries Bring Mobility to Low-Income Communities?
- Date: 10/01/2024
Buying an e-bike is expensive. Starting last year, a local startup is providing low-cost, self-charging e-bike libraries to low-income communities…
Commuting by bike is touted for reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion while improving health. The physical benefits, such as weight loss and improved endurance, have been widely documented. Now, a new study in the International Journal of Epidemiology further confirms that cycling also benefits mental health.
Though several studies have identified a positive correlation between biking to work and mental health, much of this research had smaller participant groups or self-reported measures. In this study, researchers looked at National Health Service prescription records for 378,253 individuals ages 16–74 living and working in Scotland over five years.
They sought to answer a crucial question: Can commuting by bike reduce the risk of mental ill-health?
