New app launched to provide Kansas City riders with more options

  • Date: 02/26/2024

The Unified Government of Wyandotte Co. and Kansas City, Kan., announced on Monday, Feb. 26, that the Transportation Department has launched a new microtransit and paratransit service to provide more efficient and responsive public transportation in the area.

UG noted that the IRIS app, provided by RideCo, is a cloud-based service that allows riders to plan, reserve and pay for rides in a single app. Both services operate under the RideKC brand.

Officials indicated that paratransit provides an equitable origin-to-destination alternative to fixed-route services. Eligibility is based on the individual’s functional ability to safely travel to and from a destination due to a disability. Microtransit is an on-demand shuttle service that operates in specific zones connected to fixed-route transit lines.
