The goal of this course is to provide an overview of the transit-related provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 to ensure transit provider vehicles, facilities, and services are accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities

Topics include:

• Public transportation as a foundational element of the disability rights movement
• Legislative and regulatory history of accessible transportation in the US
• Overview of the ADA as a civil rights law and how it relates to transportation
• ADA requirements across all transit modes
• Requirements specific to fixed-route and demand-responsive services
• Overview of the function of complementary paratransit
• ADA requirements transportation facilities
• Compliance and enforcement by FTA, DOT, and DOJ
• Compliance and enforcement responsibilities for public and private entities

The course is facilitated by industry professionals with extensive experience in ADA compliance in the operation of public transportation systems in the US.
