Botetourt Van Service (VA) dedicates Tuesdays to residents in northern section of the county

  • Date: 12/18/2021

Botetourt Van Services provides transportation services for residents in Botetourt County who are over the age of 55 or residents who are disabled or who need to access medical appointments and errands.

During the 2018 Community Health Assessment conducted by the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health District, they found residents in northern Botetourt County had difficulty scheduling rides with the Van Service – citing long distances from the northern part of the county to destinations in the southern part of the county. The Eagle Rock Ruritan Club started focusing on this issue and began raising awareness of the problem with County staff, elected officials and residents.

They partnered with the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission and were awarded the Community Mobility Design Challenge grant in 2020 by the National Center of Mobility Management to research the problem and develop potential solutions.
