NJ Transit plans to start replacing older gasoline-fueled vans with modern, battery-powered electric ones to shuttle senior citizens and people with disabilities.
To accomplish this sustainability switch, NJ Transit said it will piggyback on a Michigan Department of Transportation procurement deal for the reduced-cost acquisition of 19 electric battery vans at a price the agency says is “not to exceed $3.8 million.”
Each of the new electric-powered vans will have lifts to provide access for senior citizens and people with disabilities, the transportation agency said in a prepared statement.
