When it comes to the reasons for canceling an appointment, the No. 1 reason representatives of Massac Memorial Hospital or Massac Memorial Medical Clinics hear relates to problems with transportation.
With the beginning of a new program, those representatives are hoping that will change. Following years of discussion, Massac Memorial Hospital officially launched an in-house transportation program in the fall of 2022.
On Thursday, March 16, the Massac Memorial Hospital Foundation presented a $50,000 donation to assist the hospital with that program.
“We have a high no-show rate at our clinics and when you ask people, a large percentage would say it’s because they don’t have reliable transportation,” said Robbin McDaniel, the hospital’s philanthropy manager and medical staff coordinator, who is over the foundation. “It is a great pleasure for the foundation to be able to donate this $50,000 to the hospital for the transportation program, for which there’s such a need in our community. We’re very happy to be able to do that.”
