Self-driving shuttle bus arrives in Sunderland (UK)

  • Date: 03/04/2024

The first self-driving shuttle has arrived in Sunderland and is set to take to the streets in the coming months.

Following its arrival in the city last week, the Sunderland Advanced Mobility Shuttle (SAMS) marks a new era of mobility and a significant milestone in the city's journey towards self-driving transportation, as well as providing training opportunities and new skills. It is due to begin transporting passengers when it takes to the streets this spring.

But for now the focus will be on operator training, which starts in April, equipping on-board safety attendants with the necessary skills to oversee and manage autonomous operations effectively. Preparations are also underway to commence the mapping of the route, a crucial step towards creating a comprehensive and accurate map of SAMS' operational area.
