"The 2009 National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) reflects how the aging of America has influenced travel in the United States. This is not surprising, given that the population age 65 and older grew more than 2 percent annually between 2001 and 2009. Transportation planners can expect additional changes in the composition of travel, as the population age 65 and older is projected to grow by 1 another 60 percent over the next 15 years."
