Autonomous Vehicle Policy and Regulations: A Discussion on the Current Landscape and Future of AVs

September 22, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

The mobility system in the United States is unsafe, inequitable, and environmentally destructive. Autonomous vehicles (AVs), self-driving cars, could help mitigate these problems—if AVs are implemented in a thoughtful, well-regulated manner. However, if they are deployed haphazardly with inadequate oversight and regulation, they could produce even worse inequities than those caused by the current mobility system. Multiple levels of government will play a role in making regulatory choices about AV rollout, with federal, state, and local governments each contributing to the construction of the AV ecosystem.

Join the Urban Institute in conversations with leading AV experts and practitioners that will situate the current landscape of policy for AVs at these multiple levels of government. We will discuss how we can ensure the future of AV deployment is equitable and environmentally sustainable.
